Meet LOLA

LOLA is a one-year-old, female mixed breed dog (Chow, Mountain Cur, Beagle/Basset Hound, and Retriever, per her DNA test). She weighs 35 lbs and is full grown.

LOLA is a miracle story! She was born in a backyard where the owner keeps a pack of dogs. He had the original male & female and never had anyone spayed or neutered. Now he literally has generations of them (14 in all)!

We stumbled across this when the call came to help the newest litter (which we did). With the pups safely off the property, the mercy mission to spay & neuter the adults began. We got halfway through and had to stop. Wildlife infected with distemper got into the yard and one by one, the adults succumbed to the disease. (Distemper is an easy disease to protect against with the proper vaccinations, but that had not been provided either.) Lola was one of the lucky ones! We got her to the vet, provided necessary supportive care, and she survived the virus.

She is now in a great foster home. Medically, she was sound, but, when you grow up in a quasi-feral pack, your people skills are lacking. Lola continues to be quickly adapting to life inside a home. It didn't take her long to enjoy snuggling time either.

As far as canine companionship, other dogs will always be a comfort zone. She has come so far in the last 6 months and is now ready for adoption. Please consider her a work in progress, but she's worth all the effort! She should have a family with time & patience. She'll need a family who will continue to bolster her social skills. Through this all, she has never shown any sign of aggression.

IMPORTANT:  Please keep in mind both the age and life expectancy of the animal.  Our guiding principle for adoptions is to seek the right fit for our rescues and the families, including a home that can stay committed to the animal for life.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you’re interested in adopting, our process begins with the submission of our online application, or email us if you submitted an application within the last six months.  We review and schedule meet and greets (with approved applicants only) based on the order received.

Please see our FAQ page for the answers to any other questions you might have regarding the adoption process.
