Meet CHICA - Paws Behind Bars Trained
CHICA is a one-year-old female Boxer mix. She weighs 43 lbs. She came to us earlier this year, emaciated. It was during winter, and she saved herself from the cold by curling up on a porch that had a door bell camera. The family was home, but they did alert a neighbor who brought Chica in.
Our "go to" rehab facility is our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. Each inmate handler has his own dog and lives with the dog 24/7. Obedience training is just a piece of what they can do. Slowly, but surely, Chica regained her health. Her obedience training came easily, and it was clear she loves people.
What we also found out is that she's not at all fond of dogs or cats. So, she'll need a home where she's the only companion animal. In order to keep an unwanted dog or cat visitor out, she should have a fenced yard. Older children would be fine. She's got much love to give!
PLEASE NOTE: If you’re interested in adopting, our process begins with the submission of our online application, or email us if you submitted an application within the last six months. We review and schedule meet and greets (with approved applicants only) based on the order received.
