Meet PIXIE - Paws Behind Bars Trained

She is a one-year-old female Terrier mix who weighs 40 lbs. Our best guess on breed was Schnauzer. She's got the look, and she's got the coat. And we were right! Her DNA test results are pictured here. She is predominantly Schnauzer.

True to the "Terrier temperament," Pixie proves to be smart, independent, and stubborn. Our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program was just the right place for her, and, for the last couple of months, she's been in the care of an excellent and experienced inmate who's encountered pups like her before. He's challenging her mind and making it seem like a game! Pixie is responding beautifully. She'll have mastered basic obedience and will be crate, leash, and house-trained.

She'll do best in an adult home that can offer the proper exercise - physical and mental. Instead of hugs and kisses, her new owner(s) must appreciate her confidence - that's a Terrier thing. She also needs a home that establishes clear boundaries. And how do we know this? We have had her since September 2022; over that time, Pixie has "tried on a couple of home environments," and we now know that a quiet, adult home with an owner who understands Terriers is a must.
